In her senior year at Lake Washington High School, Amy did not have a plan initially to continue her interest in track and field. Her coach, Roger Hanson, had other ideas. His encouragement led Amy to pursue her sprinting career at the University of Washington.  "He had more confidence in me than I did.  I didn't think I was fast enough to run at the next level, so I hadn't even considered the idea."

After briefly living in San Francisco, Amy moved back to the Seattle area to get her Masters degree in Physical Education and Sports Administration at Seattle Pacific University. This degree led her to a career in exercise and fitness, and she is energized daily by her athletes and fitness clients. Describing her work at both Mercer Island High School and Orangetheory Fitness Mercer Island, Amy says "What fuels me is watching athletes improve from week to week and achieve their goals.  Hard work and dedication results in improved self-confidence and success."

Amy feels strongly about the personal coach and trainer-to-athlete relationship, something people cannot find online. "In my year and a half at Orangetheory Fitness Mercer Island, I've seen members go off their insulin and blood pressure medication, drop two dress sizes before their wedding, train to conquer a mountain and overall improve their confidence. There is no app for that."

More than just a job, her work motivates her at a personal level. "For me, exercise, in any form, keeps me balanced.  It relieves stress, brightens my day and clears my head." As a mom of three kids who works full time and coaches high school track on the side, she relies on her fitness routine to keep her healthy and energized each day. "I thank my body each day for its ability to move and keep me healthy mentally and physically."
