Running Shoes

Running shoes are on my shopping list. I have a pretty wide foot and wear a women's size 8. There seem to be so many different kinds out there and a wide range of prices. I am wondering, is there really a difference from shoe to shoe or can I choose a pair of running shoes based on the price and color I like best.  - Running in Circles

Running in Circles,

You need to choose a running shoe based on your foot and arch type not make a choice based on price or style. There are different running shoes for different feet. There are stability shoes and motion control (moderate or maximum) shoes, for example. There are also different last shapes, straight or semi-curved. A stability shoe is a shoe that has good support but lets the foot go through its natural gait cycle. The stability shoe is usually made on a semi-curved last and generally fits better on a foot that has a medium or higher arch. A motion control shoe is designed to control pronation or over-pronation and has extra support on the medial side of the shoe. This design helps prevent the foot from rolling over on the arch side. The motion control shoe is usually made on a straight last and will usually fit best on a foot that has a low to medium arch. Our Shoe Fitting Specialists at SHOES-n-FEET can evaluate your foot type and suggest the shoe that will best fit your foot.

Yesterday in the Bellevue, tibco training Wa shoe store we had a man come sun certification in complaining of a very painful condition commonly known as turf toe. We tried to fit him in a rocker soled shoe like the New Balance 927 and the Dansko Professional, but because pmi certification of swelling issues and the wide width of his foot we simply could not find one to fit him comfortably. As an alternative, we were able to find a shoe without a rocker sole which fit and then add a graphite plate to that shoe. The result was the same the toe was imobilized and he was able to get around better.
