Five Ways to Deal with Your Sweaty Feet

Here’s a fun fact:  Your feet put out more than 1⁄2 cup of sweat on an average day! How, you ask?  Through the 125,000 sweat glands we have on each foot.  Though potentially less painful than some other foot health problems out there, sweaty feet (aka hyperhidrosis) is not exactly what we call pleasant.  It can lead to blisters, discomfort, and of course, the ever-dreaded smelly feet! Fortunately, there are steps you can take to combat and prevent this common problem.  Here’s our quick guide to the top 5 ways to keep your feet from sweating excessively:

Painful Turf Toe

Yesterday in the Bellevue, WA shoe store, we had a man come in complaining of a very painful condition commonly known as "turf toe."  We tried to fit him in a rocker-soled shoe like the New Balance 927 and the Dansko Professional, but because of swelling issues and the wide width of his foot, we simply could not find one to fit him comfortably.  As an alternative, we were able to find a shoe without a rocker sole, which fit well, and then added a graphite plate to that shoe.  The result was the same: the toe was immobilized, and he was able to get around better.

Shoe Review – Dressy orthotic friendly shoes they do exist: Aravon Maya vs. Aravon Mia

I have really enjoyed selling the Mia and now Aravon has come out with the Maya, and it is great! The Mia has been one of my go to shoes for customers that need a stiffer front (rocker sole) but also want to be a little dressier.  Both the Maya and Mia are built on the Stridarc Rocker Sole which has a bi-fit board embedded in the outsole.  This bi-fit board works with the foot to give great support to mitigate impact on many of the tiny joints and muscles in the ball of the foot.  Also offering optimal comfort is the 3mm thick contoured memory foam insole that is removable if you need to put in an over the counter or custom orthotic in.

Arch Supports; buying over the counter is harder than just knowing your shoe size?

As shoe fitters, too often we come across ill fitting over the counter arch supports (OTC). It's easy to walk into a store, see a size on a package that looks like your shoe size, buy the product, then throw it in the shoe and away you go. You may even find some temporary relief, because something is better than nothing, but alas your pain returns or it just doesn't quite go away.
